I'm now looking at lighting for my new (to me) tank. I already have the it2171 from my old 4 ft tank. This was great and grew my acros like the were on steroids. I think I would need at least 2 Hydra 52's or xr30's, maybe more. I'm not in a position to remortgage the house so I think I'm looking at the evergrow range again. What do you think? 2 smaller units or a 5060 to give the best coverage? I liked the old ones because you couldn't mess with the different colour channels does anyone know anything about the new ones?
Is the 5060 a 2ft unit? You'd need at least 2 of those on a 6 footer or are you thinking of adding the 500 to the old unit? If so what are the LED specs, would you get a colour change?
My bad I meant 5012. No mixing the 2 lights would be bad the 2171 is a chunky beast, the 5012 is slim. Just kind of wandering if it has a fixed spectrum like the old ones. My tank is only 450mm deep and I don't want to blow my livestock up with an op unit.
I would thing the 5012 would do over a 6ft tank no worries, especially if your rockwork leaves a little room at each end and with the tank only being quite shallow. You can lift it higher without worrying about light loss if need be but you're only a foot short at either end which will only be a few inches at the sand level. Grow plating Montis at the bottom at either end
